Things they are a-changin’…

PixarLogo

After 9 great years at Avalanche Software in Salt Lake City, I took the plunge, and made the jump to movies – something I have always wanted to do.  In those 9 years I have worked with some of the most amazing artists and people around and have learned an immense amount from them.  Like Adam Ford said, they are some of the greatest people I know and will continue to be great friends.  I am thankful for the amazing knowledge that I gleaned from so many of them, and hopefully, I can do it justice.

But on to a new chapter of life.

Today, the dream became the reality.  I was lucky enough to be considered and then hired by Pixar as a Technical Director.  It’s quite frightening after working in the games industry for 9 years to walk into a place where you are now the rookie and you don’t know a thing about what you are about to do.  But I feel like a huge sponge that is bone dry, and I can’t wait to be thrown into the pool.  It’s going to be difficult, but I am so ready for this.

I ended up not getting the time to come by to congratulate you on getting in with Pixar, man... so I have to do it on your blog. Congratulations! So very cool! We'll miss you here, but I'll let you know next time we're there, and maybe you can meet us for lunch or something. You've deserved this kind of thing for a long time, sir. Best of luck!

Congrats, Barry! I can't tell how you excited I am for you, and glad that I got to take your class the last time you taught it (especially since they're still not sure who is gonna take it over in the fall...)
Good luck and have fun!

Thanks to everyone for their encouragement. It definitely is a dream come true. So far, it is everything that I thought it would be and more.

And Nathan - Squeeze is not the correct term..."thrown into the fiery furnace" is a better explanation of what it is like the first couple of weeks, and I presume a lot longer too.

I just wanted to say thanks for the class you taught at BYU. I took it twice because it was soooo good. None of my 3D work would be possible had I not taken your class. I am super grateful for all you were willing to share with us. It was like my springboard. The animation program will be very sorry to not have such a great teacher and asset. Thanks again. Good luck at Pixar.
